Crippled Black Phoenix release cover-track and details of new EP

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX will officially release the EP, 'Horrific Honorifics', which contains six cover-versions (and has previously been made available in small numbers via the band's website) on March 9th, 2018.  

The eclectic UK rockers are now streaming their stunning take on THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND classic "The Faith Healer" at the link below, which may be immediately published.

Mastermind Justin Greaves comments: "I used to watch the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' when I was young and I came across the ALEX HARVEY BAND on there. They did a great version on 'Give My Compliments To The Chef', which for years I forced upon the rest of the band when on tour. 'The Faith Healer' seamed to make sense when thinking of songs to cover. I’m glad it turned out ok. With James Ray on guest vocals, it gets an even darker edge. I'm thinking of adopting Zal Cleminson's make up on stage for the next tour."

Bands paying tribute to their personal favourites and influences can easily fall victim of two major traps: either slavishly copying the original out of an overdose of respect or twisting a classic into something beyond recognition and failing to capture the essence of a track. 

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX have elegantly avoided such pitfalls as the UK rockers pay homage to great artists and classic songs with all due respect on their previously self-released EP, 'Horrific Honorifics', while making those tracks their own in sound and spirit without compromising the integrity of the original masterpieces.

Although CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX are visiting such a wide range of diverse artists such as SWANS, NO MEANS NO, and THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND for example, all songs are closely bound together by a subtle undercurrent of despair and deep melancholy. 

This touch of darkness comes hardly as a surprise, when taking into account that mastermind Justin Greaves has previously gone public about his personal fight against severe depression. Similar dark themes and traits have already been a hallmark of the UK rockers' latest full-length, 'Bronze' (2016).

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX have always confounded critics trying to pin their style down ever since multi-instrumentalist Justin Greaves recorded his first ideas in 2004 – which earned them tagging attempts ranging from "stoner prog" to "freak folk" to "psychedelic doom". Despite the wide range of musical leanings within their albums, there are a unifying dark streak and sombre melancholy running through the songs. Founder Justin Greaves had already made himself a name as drummer for IRON MONKEY and ELECTRIC WIZARD among others. When the multi-instrumentalist finally decided to stand on his own musical feet, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX was born as a project. This involves a changing cast of musicians and live set-ups, which mirror the ever-ongoing evolution of the band and the fact that the songs were mostly not composed with their live performance on mind. 

Between 2007 and 2014, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX released a string of five critically highly acclaimed studio albums – from 'A Love of Shared Disasters' (2007), via 'The Resurrectionists' (2009), 'Night Raider' (2009), '(Mankind) The Crafty Ape' (2012), until 'White Light Generator' (2014). This was complemented by EPs 'I, Vigilante' (2010), 'No Sadness or Farewell' (2012), and 'Oh' Ech-oes' (2015), the live recording 'Live Poznan' (2013), and the '200 Tons of Bad Luck' compilation (2009). Their 'New Dark Age Tour EP 2015 A.D.' was the band's first release on Season of Mist that came with an extensive homage to PINK FLOYD. The strong influence of the UK rock giants can still be felt on 'Bronze', yet while CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX never denied their roots, this outstanding act has long created their own sonic cosmos.

Nel 2013 con l'album "Requiem For Us All", i The Modern Age Slavery riscossero un'enorme consenso di pubblico e critica. Non male se pensiamo a quanto siano esigenti ed abitudinari i fan del death metal.

Prima che si chiudesse il sipario sul 2017 i nostri hanno pubblicato una nuova macchina da guerra intitolata Stygian.
Un death metal cruento, con elementi di metalcore tecnico ed occasionali accenni al black metal che si avviluppano ad una consistenza lirica di rara bravura che i cambi di line up che si sono susseguiti negli anni non hanno minimamente scalfito.


Stygian rappresenta la loro vera identità musicale, quella che poche band sono riuscite a  cucirsi addosso come una seconda pelle, fatta di accelerazioni che ti lasciano senza respiro, ma anche di intermezzi melodici dell'anima europeista più dolce. 
Camminando sull'immaginario filo di lana che separa i maestri del genere dal qualunquismo generale, i The Modern Age Slavery sfoderano un equilibrio tecnico tattico davvero fuori dal comune.

Paradossalmente la cover dei Pantera "Sandblasted Skin" risulta la meno coinvolgente, questo a suggello di un lavoro professionale che ha bisogno di esternare tutta la propria personalità.

EARTHLESS – svelati i dettagli del nuovo album, il primo singolo e i pre-ordini!

Gli EARTHLESS, il trio di San Diego che ha visto il proprio album del 2013 “From The Ages” incluso in svariate classifiche di fine anno, tra cui su Rolling Stone e Magnet, tornano col nuovo full-length “Black Heaven” il 16 marzo su Nuclear Blast!

La band offre oggi un assaggio del suo nuovo lavoro, attraverso il primo singolo 'Gifted By The Wind'.

 “Siamo orgogliosi di svelare il primo singolo ‘Gifted By The Wind’”, dichiara il batterista Mario Rubalcaba. "È un qualcosa che smuove, ha groove e vuole scuotere il vostro cervello! Speriamo che vi piaccia”. La canzone, che dà il via all'album, segna un cambiamento per la band, con quattro delle sei canzoni cantate, mentre i lavori precedenti avevano solo occasionalmente la voce. "Non è stata una cosa premeditata realizzare un disco con la voce", continua Rubalcaba. "Nei lavori più vecchi, Mike [Eginton] era responsabile di molti dei riff che avrebbero dato il via a queste jam, ma su questo Isaiah [Mitchell] ha davvero portato la sua energia e il suo gusto. Direi che è una delle maggiori differenze in quest’album: ci sono più l'input da parte di Isaia. Ha corso un rischio sottoponendoci queste idee, non sapendo se ci sarebbero piaciute. Ma come ciò che abbiamo fatto in passato, il tutto è sembrato molto organico e naturale".

Deathwhite reveal second track of forthcoming debut album

DEATHWHITE are currently revealing the second single taken from their forthcoming album, 'For a Black Tomorrow'. The enigmatic American heralds of darkness will release their debut full-length on February 23rd, 2018.

The song, "The Grace of the Dark" is now exclusively streaming via Decibel Magazine 

Decibel is quoting DEATHWHITE on their new track as follows: "The last song we composed for the For a Black Tomorrow album, 'The Grace of the Dark' features one of our more melancholic riffs that is combined with outside instrumentation, i.e. keyboards, which marks a first for Deathwhite. We felt so strongly about the song upon its completion that we felt it had to be lead-off track on the album. And lyrically, it tells the story of someone who only finds solace in the darkest and quietest of places…"

American metal is often associated with its rather brutal side in Europe and often taken to involve the terms "death" and "core" by default. With their first album 'For A Black Tomorrow', DEATHWHITE masterly demonstrate that hard sounds from overseas can also be dark, emotional, and subtle. Although the Americans come with an already well matured style very much their own, some rough comparisons are offering a sketchy idea on which paths DEATHWHITE tread.

To say that they combine the melancholic depth of GHOST BRIGADE with a sense of drama that would fit MOONSPELL and a pinch of AMORPHIS for added taste is of course not fully correct, but might give suitable hints.

Formed in 2012, DEATHWHITE were created in part to follow on the path first explored by dark metal torchbearers such as ANATHEMA, KATATONIA, MY DYING BRIDE, and PARADISE LOST.

In 2014, the 'Ethereal' EP successfully established a template of melodic, clean vocals alongside melancholic, but heavy riffing. This debut created an early buzz within the metal underground that grew significantly with the following 'Solitary Martyr' EP (2015), which was hailed by critics as "thick with emotion" and "wonderfully engrossing”.

Backed by such praise, DEATHWHITE spent 2016 writing and recording their first full-length under the supervision of producer and engineer Shane Mayer. Listen and let 'For A Black Tomorrow' seduce you to delve deep into its enthralling darkness!
