Hailing from Kotka, Finland, CRIMSON SUN are a fresch modern melodic metal band.

LFdM: When you read melodic metal is very easy to turn up their nose, perhaps too used to a label that is misleading and that creates certain expectations in who approaches an album. Wanting to amplify the concept of the word, how would you define your band?
Sini: We consider our music as modern melodic metal and it’s all about heavy riffs mixed with attitude, groove, and catchy melodies – not symphonic nor too poppy, but something that is easy to listen to and really sounds like us.
LFdM: Many rely on the skills of a member in particular, whether the singer or the guitarist who wrote the lyrics, etc. I think you have painted this "sun" with millions of colors, drawing from each of you. Had I a vision too dreamy of this album and of your band? (Laughs)
S: Well, I think you said it pretty well! Joni Junnila (guitars) and Jukka Jauhiainen (bass) are the main composers, but we all have been involved in the making of the songs more or less. For example, it was quite natural from the beginning that we all wrote the lyrics, so you can tell there are many stories behind each and every song. I would say that our teamwork and passion is something that makes our band and the album, unique in one way.
LFdM: I found many references to classic metal riffs to the mighty Iron Maiden perfectly blended with melodic lyrics. What are your main inspiration?
S: Our composers Joni and Jukka are mainly influenced by bands like Megadeth, Pantera and Soilwork and you can hear it in the heavy riffs and energy in our music. As a vocalist, I am highly inspired by other singers from different genres. Though the heavy metal and rock-based singers like Lzzy Hale from Halestorm and Floor Jansen from Nightwish and ReVamp, for example, are the ones that I really look up to.
LFdM: Powerful and enchantress voice, a demon in a body of mermaid. You have taken care of every detail very well. What kind of work was there behind this album and where is now bringing you the success that "Towards the Light" had?
S: It was quite a long, but greatly rewarding process. Jukka and Joni composed the demo songs and we arranged them together as a band, plus recorded some vocals and so on. As it eventually turned out, we all contributed in the writing of the lyrics on the album. When we hit the studio it all came together pretty easily with the help and the ideas of our producer, Saku Moilanen, from Deep Noise Studios in Finland. The album got a very warm welcome and it got great reviews, which has helped us to expand our fan base by making people more familiar with the band and by bringing us greater opportunities for live shows.
LFdM: Compared to other north European bands your sound is much more international, you come off much from the classic tenets of Finnish and Scandinavian metal. This is the reason behind the choice of entrusting to a Canadian label?
S: We got offers from other labels too, but the deal with North American-based Maple Metal Records turned out to be the best one, and the label seemed to be the most excited in us.
LFdM: Can you reveal more about the near future? Even if Towards the Light has just been released, do you have new material?
S: Right now we are focusing on the upcoming gigs in Finland, but at the same time we are actually working on new material. I can already promise you it’s going to be kick-ass!
LFdM: Thank you for this interview and we hope to see you soon in Italy.
S: Of course, we'll be there as soon as possible! Crimson Sun would love to rock out in Italy!
